Last week, I had the pleasure of chatting with Lucio Pierri on his show, "Attenti al Lucio," on Telecapri. It was a fantastic opportunity to reflect on my journey in Naples and share how my love for Campania’s flavors became a full-time career.
A Life Reimagined in Campania
Many are surprised to learn I didn't move here for the food—I originally came for the military. I served as a Captain in the Air Force at Bagnoli, but the charm of Campania "captured my heart," making it impossible to leave. After two decades of teaching math, I finally pursued my true passions: food, wine, and travel.
The Birth of "Andiamotrips"
During the interview, we discussed the beginnings of my business, Andiamotrips. Back in 2009, few options existed for English speakers to explore local wineries. Fluent in both languages, I began leading groups, which eventually led me to become a certified sommelier and wine and food writer.
Bringing Campania to the Screen
A highlight of our conversation was my digital series, In the Kitchen Campania. I shared how crowdfunding helped launch this project, allowing me to produce, film, and tell the stories of local chefs throughout the region. It’s been a passion project combining storytelling and my love for local culture.
Breaking the "American Food" Stereotype
Lucio couldn’t resist asking about the stereotype that Americans don’t know good food. We shared a laugh, but the truth is clear: once Americans taste Italy’s authentic flavors, there’s no looking back! I’m proud to call myself a "Neapolitan by choice" now.
Being a guest on such a lively local program was an honor. Many thanks to Lucio and the Telecapri team for the warm welcome!
