Why Lacco Ameno, Ischia is a Fantasticaaa Part of a Your Campania Island Hop
I chose SNAV's 2 Islands in One Day tour to visit Ischia and Procida. My first stop- Lacco Ameno. Here's how I chose to spend a couple of hours on the Big Green Island.

Two fantasticaaa islands in one day? Yes, you can. But trust me, to truly soak in that island vibe, you need to embrace the mantra of "less is more." Choose a few activities, savor the moments, and chill. Last week, I asked you about your travel persona, and many of you couldn't settle on just one. I get it—I'm the same way. My travel persona often reveals itself on the day of the trip, just as it did recently on my SNAV adventure. The weather forecast was promising, with almost no chance of rain. I boarded the hydrofoil, heading to the second floor and snagging a front-row seat. We set sail at 8:30 a.m., and here's a pro tip for you: For views of Naples and its coast, sit on the right. For views of Procida and Casamicciola, the left side is where you want to be. I chose the left and relaxed, contemplating the day ahead.
After a swift stop in Procida, (we don't get off here!) we continued to Ischia, specifically Casamicciola. A quick glance at my watch showed it was 9:30 a.m. Perfect timing! This gave me a chance to explore two areas of the island, Lacco Ameno and Casamicciola, before heading back to Procida at 2 p.m. Lacco Ameno was my first stop. At the port's end, you have a few options: taxi, bus, or your own two feet. The weather was fantastic, so I opted to walk—a 15-20 minute stroll to the right. The sidewalk is wide, and the view is breathtaking. Pro tip: If walking isn't your thing, the bus stop is right next to the taxi stand. Check the schedule, and when the bus arrives, confirm your destination. Yes, you can buy your ticket online via the app.
Why Lacco Ameno, you ask? Local guides taught me that this is where it all began. In the 8th century B.C., Euboean settlers landed here to establish Pithecusa, the first colony of Magna Grecia. Nestled between Montevico Hill and the stunning San Montano Bay, this area was a bustling hub for Mediterranean trade long before the Roman Empire emerged.
Having visited before, today I wanted to take it slow. After a few minutes of strolling, I spotted the epic Fungo in the distance—the Mushroom Rock, Lacco Ameno's iconic symbol. This majestic green tufa rock erupted from the sea centuries ago and eroded into a perfect mushroom shape. I took my time admiring it, indulging in some Gasparotto Gelato, and, of course, getting creative with my phone's camera to capture some B-roll footage for my socials.

A leisurely walk along Corso Angelo Rizzoli offers a delightful shopping experience. This street is a haven for curated shopping lovers, brimming with chic boutiques, colorful souvenir shops, and intriguing herbalist stores. I spent quite some time exploring local colognes and the world-renowned thermal spa products. Since the mid-century "Rizzoli" era, Lacco Ameno has been a healing destination, and taking home volcanic mud masks or thermal creams is a must.
The street is also dotted with inviting bars—perfect for a quick espresso—though it was still a bit early for the restaurants to be bustling with lunch activity.
Eager to soak in some culture, I headed to Lacco Ameno’s main piazza, Piazza Santa Restituta, and explored the Basilica of the same name. It's said to be one of the island's most beautiful churches. As the sanctuary of the island's patron saint, the church holds deep emotional significance. Each May, it becomes the centerpiece of a vibrant festival that transforms the town, making the church feel like the "beating heart" of Lacco Ameno.

Two hours into my island adventure, I decided to enjoy some time in Casamicciola. I hopped on the local EAV bus for a quick 3-minute ride back, an ideal end to a morning that blended several of my travel personas.

Due isole fantastiche in un solo giorno? Sì, è possibile. Ma credetemi, per immergersi davvero nell'atmosfera dell'isola, bisogna adottare il mantra del "less is more" (meno è meglio). Scegliete poche attività, assaporate ogni momento e rilassatevi.
La scorsa settimana vi ho chiesto quale fosse la vostra "persona" di viaggio e molti di voi non sono riusciti a sceglierne una sola. Vi capisco perfettamente: io sono uguale. La mia indole di viaggiatrice si rivela spesso il giorno stesso della partenza, proprio come è successo di recente durante la mia avventura con SNAV.
Le previsioni promettevano bene, con quasi nessuna possibilità di pioggia. Sono salita sull'aliscafo, dirigendomi al secondo piano e accaparrandomi un posto in prima fila. Siamo salpati alle 8:30 e, a questo proposito, ecco un consiglio da esperta: per godervi la vista di Napoli e della sua costa, sedetevi sul lato destro. Per ammirare Procida e Casamicciola, il lato sinistro è quello che fa per voi. Io ho scelto la sinistra e mi sono rilassata, riflettendo sulla giornata che mi attendeva.
Dopo una rapida sosta a Procida, abbiamo proseguito verso Ischia, precisamente a Casamicciola. Una rapida occhiata all'orologio: erano le 9:30. Tempismo perfetto! Questo mi ha permesso di esplorare due zone dell'isola, Lacco Ameno e Casamicciola, prima di andare a Procida alle 14:00.
Lacco Ameno è stata la mia prima tappa. All'uscita del porto avete diverse opzioni: taxi, autobus o le vostre gambe. Il tempo era fantastico, quindi ho optato per una passeggiata: una camminata di circa 15-20 minuti verso destra. Il marciapiede è largo e la vista è mozzafiato.
Consiglio: Se camminare non fa per voi, la fermata dell'autobus è proprio accanto allo stazionamento dei taxi. Controllate gli orari e, all'arrivo del bus, confermate la destinazione. Sì, potete acquistare il biglietto online tramite l'app.
Perché proprio Lacco Ameno? Le guide locali mi hanno insegnato che è qui che tutto ha avuto inizio. Nell'VIII secolo a.C., i coloni euboici sbarcarono qui per fondare Pithecusa, la prima colonia della Magna Grecia. Incastonata tra la collina di Montevico e la splendida baia di San Montano, quest'area era un vivace centro di scambi mediterranei molto prima della nascita dell'Impero Romano.
Essendoci già stata in passato, oggi volevo prendermela con calma. Dopo pochi minuti di cammino, ho avvistato in lontananza l'epico Fungo: la roccia a forma di fungo, simbolo iconico di Lacco Ameno. Questo maestoso blocco di tufo verde emerse dal mare secoli fa e l'erosione lo ha modellato in questa forma perfetta. Mi sono presa il mio tempo per ammirarlo, godendomi un gelato da Gasparotto e, naturalmente, dando sfogo alla creatività con lo smartphone per catturare dei b-roll per i miei social.
Una piacevole passeggiata lungo Corso Angelo Rizzoli offre un'esperienza di shopping deliziosa. Questa strada è un paradiso per chi ama gli acquisti ricercati, ricca di boutique chic, negozi di souvenir colorati e affascinanti erboristerie. Ho trascorso diverso tempo a scoprire i profumi locali e i famosi prodotti termali. Fin dall'epoca d'oro di Rizzoli a metà del secolo scorso, Lacco Ameno è stata una destinazione curativa; portare a casa una maschera al fango vulcanico o una crema termale è d'obbligo.
La strada è anche costellata di bar invitanti — perfetti per un caffè veloce — anche se era ancora un po' presto perché i ristoranti si animassero per il pranzo.
Desiderosa di un po' di cultura, mi sono diretta verso la piazza principale di Lacco Ameno, Piazza Santa Restituta, e ho visitato la Basilica omonima. Si dice sia una delle chiese più belle dell'isola. Essendo il santuario della patrona dell'isola, la chiesa ha un profondo significato emotivo. Ogni maggio diventa il cuore pulsante di una festa vibrante che trasforma la città.
Dopo due ore di avventura, ho deciso di dedicare un po' di tempo a Casamicciola. Sono salita sul bus locale EAV per un rapido tragitto di 3 minuti: la conclusione ideale di una mattinata che ha saputo fondere diverse sfaccettature del mio modo di viaggiare.
